How should I structure my workouts?

The fitness industry is often a minefield, Saturated with a huge range of conflicting information from Personal Trainers, fitness enthusiasts and social media influencers on the best and most effective ways to exercise. Some get it right, but a massive proportion of the information is either produced solely to make their page look and feel more engaging, is relatively vague, or does not apply to the general public who are looking to make a positive change to their health through exercise. For this reason we are going to explore the fundamentals of exercise selection and programming and how it will benefit your training!

What is exercise programming?

Put relatively simply, exercise programming is a structured plan designed to make sure our training is consistent, measurable, effective and continually progressing.
So, we need to break each element down to understand why they are necessary.
- Consistency is built by sticking to a plan for a specific time frame and avoiding doing something completely different every session.
- Having measurable outcomes in each session is important to stay on track and recognise progression, this could be the amount of weight lifted, the amount of reps performed, the level of intensity or even your heart rate during sessions... which cannot be done if every training session is different from the last.
- In order for the program to be effective, the exercises within it must be chosen carefully to account for different areas of the body being targeted which will ensure all bases are being covered to maintain strength and avoid imbalances.
- For our programme to progress it requires changes over set amounts of time that bring new stimulus and further challenge us… as mentioned above we want to stick with our planned sessions until we are finding it comfortable, at which point we implement a change in the program to progress exercises, intensity or load.

How can MegaBox help with this!?

In the first instance, the digitalised, circuit based structure of MegaBox is the first key element to providing effective exercise programming for all our members, something that is not accessible at ‘conventional gyms’! This concept allows us to carefully choose the exercises that will be performed in each of our circuits to maximize the efficiency of every workout.

The second advantage of how MegaBox works in relation to effective programming is that the circuit changes every 4 weeks providing a new workout for the next 4 week block. Some essential exercises remain in the circuit such as variations of the squat or deadlift, along with pulling movements to help with general strength and posture.
The majority of exercises will be changed to add a new training stimulus along with new boxing combinations to further improve boxing skills and drive progression.

In the second instance, our Small Group Personal Training bridges the gap between independent training on the MegaBox Circuit and 1 to 1 Personal Training. The sessions offer experienced guidance from one of our coaches, a group of likeminded people to achieve your goals with and finally a reduction in cost compared to 1-2-1 Personal Training.

The final instance is the most detailed form of exercise programming at MegaBox; Personal Training. As a personal training client your program will be individually tailored to you based on your goals, injury history, lifestyle and most importantly the specific strengths and weaknesses identified in your pre exercise postural and movement screening. We will then hand pick the most effective and beneficial exercises to build your program around and implement progressions when necessary to maximize results!
