The festive season!

Enjoying yourself & staying on track!

It is inevitable that Christmas and New Year celebrations will be filled with lots of food, plenty of drinks and of course good times with family and friends…  which of course is what we look forward to with great anticipation!
What we may not be so keen to welcome are those extra Lbs creeping onto the scales or that sluggish January feeling of trying to ‘get back to it’ in the New Year.

Well, we are here to give you some useful tips to follow over the festive period to first of all make sure you are able to enjoy a guilt free Christmas and secondly, to prevent you from undoing all the hard work that you may have done leading up to the big day, giving you a head start on your fitness goals for 2022!

1. Continue Exercising

Try and continue with your usual exercise routine as best you can... consistency is key. Not only will this help keep some of that Christmas weight at bay, it will also prevent that dreaded ‘first workout back’ feeling come January that often gets pushed back further and further if you have a long stoppage of activity over Christmas and New Year. If you can't find enough time or just want to enjoy the break from your usual workouts then getting a few walks in will be a good substitute for keeping active, feeling energised and helping with digesting those mince pies and pigs in blankets!

2. Don’t Overindulge

With temptation everywhere and the fear of missing out, it can be all too easy to over-indulge if others around us are diving into the mulled wine and chocolates. It’s important to remember that you shouldn't restrict yourself from the niceties but instead be conscious to have everything in moderation. This way you can enjoy all the things you love over Christmas without feeling restricted or over doing it.

3. Be Smart

Try and keep some consistency with your meals whenever it is possible to do so. Protein based meals with plenty of veg and complex carbohydrates are always a good place to start when you're not tucking into Christmas dinner! Again, not throwing everything out of the window over the festive period will keep you on track but you should still allow yourself to enjoy the things you like to eat and drink.

4. Don’t Feel Guilty

You should never feel guilty about what you eat or don't eat, however, if you overindulge you may let the guilt get the better of you. This can be quite a detrimental process as this guilt can often result in us throwing all our hard work out of the window because of a few bad days… ‘One hot day, doesn’t make a summer’.

Christmas is a time where we do enjoy food and drink, and that is totally fine, but hopefully with these tips you find it much easier to get back on the horse in the New Year to chase and achieve your goals!

Remember that we will be open in-between Christmas and New Year so you can come get your sessions in and maybe just sneak out of the house for a bit!
Check out our socials for our opening hours.

We want to wish you and your families, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We look forward to helping you kickstart the year off right.
